About Us

Howell Animal Hospital was established in 1952 by Dr. Charles Renton. Originally, he treated all types of farm animals and pets. Today our staff includes 6 veterinarians, Dr. Rob Renton is our equine veterinarian who travels throughout Livingston county and into Washtenaw, Shiawassee, Oakland and Genesee treating horses. While in the clinic, Dr Mary Lindamood, Dr Diane Kettel, Dr Lee Ann Fosdick and Dr Connie Sveller concentrate primarily on cats and dogs.

In 2003 our clinic went thru a transformation and we expanded to accommodate our client’s needs.

Dr Rob Renton has been specializing in horses including equine herd health, dentistry, reproduction, lameness and emergency medicine since his graduation from MSU in 1985. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Large Animal Department of MSU, member of American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), Michigan Equine Practitioners Association (MEPA) , American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA).

Dr Mary Lindamood offers veterinary spinal manipulative therapy and Chinese Herbal Medicine to those interested in alternative methodology. In 2006, she received chiropractic certification from the Healing Oasis Wellness Center in Wisconsin. She is also a member of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA).

Robert Renton

Robert Renton

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Rob specializes in equine medicine. He graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. His uncle, Dr. Charles Renton, started Howell Animal Hospital in 1952. Rob took over the practice in 1997. Rob started with his first Shetland Pony at the age of 11 and has been involved with Arabian horses since 1974.

He is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Large Animal at MSU, is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), Michigan Equine Practitioners (MEPA), including being past president, American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA).

In his spare time, Rob enjoys reading, traveling, outdoor activities and MSU basketball. Go Green!

Mary Lindamood

Mary Lindamood

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, CVA, CVFT, VSMT

Mary was born and grew up in Plymouth, Michigan, the oldest of 4 girls. She graduated in 1983 from Plymouth Canton High School and attended Northern Michigan University and Madonna College for her undergraduate studies. In 1994, she graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She spent her first year working in a mixed animal practice in the Salem/South Lyon area before relocating to Howell for a job as an associate veterinarian at Howell Animal Hospital.

Over the years Mary has developed a strong interest in alternative veterinary medicine. She completed the Veterinary Spinal Manipulation (chiropractic) course at the Healing Oasis Wellness Center with Dr. Pedro Rimera in 2007. Dr. Lindamood was certified in spinal manipulation therapy in 2009. In 2015, she was certified in traditional Chinese veterinary acupuncture and food therapy. Currently she is pursuing a certificate in traditional Chinese veterinary herbal medicine.

In her free time, Mary enjoys gardening, fly fishing, backpacking and yoga.

Connie Sveller

Connie earned her BS in 1981 and graduated from MSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. After graduation she was an associate veterinarian for three years and then opened her own practice in Swartz Creek, Michigan where she cared for both small animals and horses. After twenty years of being a practice owner, she decided to sell her business and semi-retire. Dr. Sveller works part time for the Howell Animal Hospital.

Connie has been married to her husband Rick for 37 years. They reside in Haslett and have one son, Shane.

In her spare time, Connie enjoys reading, working with Nala’s New Life Rescue in Florida, and sports, especially golfing with her husband and watching the MSU Spartans!

Dianne Kettel

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dianne graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. She practiced as a small animal veterinarian in Indiana until moving to Brighton, Michigan. At Howell Animal Hospital she works with dogs and cats, and has a special interest in ultrasonography and cytology,

She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA,) Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA,) and the Livingston County Veterinary Medical Association (LCVMA.)

Dianne has been married to her husband Richard for 27 years and has two adult daughters. In her spare time she likes to run, bake for anyone who will eat, dabble in linocut printmaking, and volunteer in her community and at her church.

Lee Ann Berglund-Fosdick

Lee Ann Berglund-Fosdick

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Lee Ann Berglund-Fosdick, DVM, PhD, and her husband, Mark Fosdick, live on a small goat farm that includes goats, pigs, dogs, cats, chickens and a large flower and vegetable garden.

She graduated with a PhD in Pharmacology from University of Florida in 1989 and with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1998. After graduation, she owned Lee Ann’s Mobile Veterinary Service - a mixed animal practice - and contracted with several Michigan Animal Shelters.

“Doktor LeeAnn” began teaching one week every month at Ag Horizon Veterinary Training Center in Haiti in 2016 and became an Associate Missionary with Christian Veterinary Missions in 2018. Dr. Lee Ann enjoys helping people with their dogs, cats, goats, pigs, poultry, ferrets, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, and mice (by appointment), when she is in the United States.

Lauren Fischer

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Lauren grew up near Milwaukee, Wisconsin and fostered her interest in horses while working at a local riding stable. She graduated from Michigan State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 and worked for the next five years at an equine hospital in Ohio. She gained equine acupuncture training through the Chi Institute in 2015 and, in early 2021, she moved back to Michigan to join the Howell Animal Hospital team. Her special interests include dentistry, reproduction, acupuncture, and managing senior horses.

For two weeks each year, Lauren participates in Michigan State’s “Equine Welfare in Practice” clerkship for third and fourth year vet students. The team of vets and students travel to rural areas of Mexico to provide medical care for horses, mules, and donkeys. Lauren aids in translation and instructs students in routine dentistry.

Lauren is married and has two cats. In her free time, she loves hiking, biking, dancing, playing board games, and traveling.

Sarah has worked at the Howell Animal Hospital since 1993. She is a proud graduate of Michigan State University and is active in the community through Heart of the Shepherd Lutheran Church. She enjoys trail riding with her Arabian mare, Lizzie.

Receptionist

Alane joined the Howell Animal Hospital team in 2005. She enjoys interacting with our clients and their companion animals

She lives in Howell with her family and their four dogs and five cats.

In her free time, she enjoys RV’ing, photography and scrap booking.

Liz started working as a veterinary receptionist in 1999. In July of 2014, she and her husband moved to Howell and she began working at Howell Animal Hospital. They share their home with their lab mix Reba, which they adopted from animal control. In her spare time she enjoys reading, watching movies and Tiger baseball.

Kim graduated from MSU in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology. She has a background in emergency medicine and oncology but has developed special interest in surgery and anesthesia over the years. She is also a big advocate of client education.

Kim grew up in Brighton and lives locally with her husband and two daughters. They have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a very spoiled bunny that keep them busy.

Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family traveling, camping and on their boat. Kim used to be a dedicated dressage rider and competitor but sold her horse recently to spend more time with her family.

Kelly started working at Howell Animal Hospital in 1993. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1994 with a BS in Animal Science and again in 1997 with an associates degree in veterinary technology.

She has four children, three dogs, and a miniature horse.

Outside of work, she enjoys anything outdoors, reading, soccer, her family and rooting for Spartan soccer and basketball.

Rebecca began working at Howell Animal Hospital since 2020. She is a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology and a master’s in Higher Adult and Lifelong Education.

She has a special interest in rabbits and client education.

In her free time she enjoys fishing with her husband, traveling, and learning about other cultures.

Lindsay has been working in the vet field since 1999. 15 of those years were working in emergency medicine.

She lives in Fowlerville with her 2 children (son and daughter), husband, and 3 dogs.

Lindsay loves to travel, spend time with her family and watch her children play various sports.

Kim has been in the veterinary field since 1992 with experience in emergency and feline practice.

She lives in Fowlerville with her husband, 2 dogs and 3 cats.

Her hobbies include hiking with her dogs, camping, reading, and cooking.

Ashley started working for Howell Animal Hospital in December of 2014 as a Veterinary Assistant.

She has always been passionate about animals. She has a horse, 2 dogs and a rabbit.

In her free time, Ashley loves to run, exercise and ride her horse.

Veterinary Assistant

Samantha has been working in the vet field since 2019. She is currently attending Penn Foster and is working towards a bachelors degree in veterinary technology. She has a special interest in emergency medicine.

Growing up on her family farm, she has shown sheep, cattle, and pigs most of her life.

Out side of work, she enjoys photography, traveling, and spending time with her dog Lola and Dutton.

Katherine began as a volunteer at the clinic in 2020 and currently attends Howell High School. Upon graduation, she plans on attending collage to become a veterinarian.

She enjoys working on art and and spending time with her 6 ducks and puppy

Veterinary Assistant

Victoria came to Howell Animal Hospital in September of 2022 as a senior in high school. She is the oldest of five children and has grown up in Livingston County with her family. They have a small farm with dogs, lots of cats, chickens, a bunny, and a duck. She was homeschooled and is now attending the Veterinary Tech program at Baker College. She plans to graduate with her Vet Tech degree in the spring of 2025.

In her spare time, Victoria enjoys hanging out with her family, friends, and animals and she loves traveling.
